SHOTION 1.

Foreign Office, March 30, 1912. I HAVE received your despatch No. 35 of the 11th instant, forwarding copy of a note from the Portuguese Government in reply to your communication, informing them of the instructions sent to the Governor of the Straits Settlements to prohibit the export of opium to Macao, except on a certificate from the Portuguese consul at Singapore, that it was required for the use of the Government opium farmer.

The points raised in this note appear to have been already dealt with in my note to the Portuguese Minister of the 22nd instant, copy of which was sent to you in my despatch No. 16 of the 23rd instant; and it therefore seems unnecessary to send a further reply to the Portuguese Government.

I am, &c.
